Successes and Challenges

 SUCCESSES AND CHALLENGES

Throughout our postproduction process, we have had many successes while also having to face and consider many challenges.

SUCCESSES:

  • Using editing techniques to cut clips and make them run smoothly together:

Some techniques are cross fading and invisible cuts which have helped combine clips in a smooth and thorough way. Although this may not allow the film to work in its original script form, being able to arrange things while editing helps make the ideas come to a real vision.

  • Matching audio:

We have been able to match audio levels together and create audio soundscapes. Having the ability to add background sound effects and music helps to make our film more engaging for the audience to watch and has contributed to making our film smooth and seamless.

  • Color grading:

We have used color grading to make each clip have the same tone. When we use a blander color scheme, it helps signify emptiness and sadness, whereas using a brighter color scheme helps signify a more lively and happy tone.

CHALLENGES:

  • Poor audio recordings:

Throughout filming, it was hard to shut out any sort of background noises that interfere with the voices of characters or sound effects of things like doors shutting, doorbell ringing, or car starting. This becomes a challenge because it is important to make sound effects like this seamless and seem more realistic. To make it clear we can use voiceovers, but it is very difficult to match the audios to avoid making it sound like a clear voiceover.

  • Tight deadlines:

The postproduction process is often crammed into a very small deadline. Within this time, we must edit the colors, audio, and clips, while also worrying about the reflection processes. All these processes may not seem too much to do in 3 short weeks, but in reality all these things are very time consuming and difficult to perfect.

  • Compatibility issues:

This has been a very common challenge we have had to face. When moving parts of our project through different software programs or computer systems, it can cause a bunch of hiccups and failures. This becomes very frustrating to deal with on top of all the jobs we already must do with these parts of the project.

Production Logo

 Production Logo

Today we finalized our production logo on Canva. We named our production company MK Productions by combining the letters of both of our first names. This will be presented at the end of our final opening movie scene.

The importance of personalized logos:

    • They recognize companies that finance or produce films or TV shows, highlighting their contribution to production.
    • Like corporate branding, these logos assist businesses in making themselves stand out in a competitive market.
    • They aim to be unforgettable, frequently employing symbolic, emotionally impactful visuals to create deeper links with audiences.

Rough Draft

 Rough Draft

We imported all the clips that we are using into Adobe. We edited the clips to shorten them, but we are still far over our time limit for the whole film. It came out to be around 2 minutes and 10 seconds after shortening them, not including the opening credits and production name. We must start cutting clips and maybe even removing some that aren't needed.

Opening Credits

 Opening Credits

We will present our opening credits right after we present the title of the film and who the production company is. The opening credits should include the production company, main actors, director, producers, writer, editor, and highlight artists of any music used. Opening credits are there to give the credibility to each person involved in the film making and highlight which person did which task. We will have the names for all these tasks listed, fading in and out one at a time. It will then fade to end and then transition into the actual film content.

We are not sure what music is going to be used yet due to still prepping for editing, but these are the names of the people that are given credit towards each task:

Production Company: MK Production

Actors: Kole Ayrault, Joe Moon (voice actor), Mikala Moon

Director: Mikala Moon

Producers: Mikala Moon and Kole Ayrault

WritersMikala Moon and Kole Ayrault

Editor: Mikala Moon

Title Creation

Title Creation

Today we created an animated logo that will be used in the beginning of the film to present the title. We used the features in Canva to put them together, such as the videos and animation effects within the app.

This is the process of editing it and putting it together. The next thing shown is a video of what the animation looks like with it all put together.

Adobe Premiere

 Key features of Adobe Premiere

We researched possible transitions and features that we might use for editing our opening scene. We may not use all of them, and we may use others that are not listed.

Transitions

  • Cross Dissolve: A standard, smooth fade between clips.

  • Dip to Black/White: Fades through a solid color to indicate a scene of change, often used for dramatic effects.

  • Morph Cut: A sophisticated transition that uses face-tracking to create a seamless jump cut, commonly used in interviews.

  • Motion Impacts: A variety of dynamic transitions including Push, Slide, Split, Spin, Fold, and Page Turn.

Features

  • Audio Editing: Essential Sound panel offers auto-ducking, noise reduction, and sound mixing.

  • Performance: GPU-accelerated performance enables faster rendering and smoother playback.

  • Motion Graphics: Essential Graphics panel allows for animated titles and motion graphics templates.

  • Ai and Automation Auto Reframe automatically tracks and crops video for different aspect ratios.
